Photo Quest # 93

# 1 – a self portrait (I made it 2 weeks ago)

# 2 – my avatar

…. and how I made it:

First I pushed up lightness and contrasts so that a lot of nuances of the original were destructed. Then I edited the colors, then I played with gradation. That looked very strange afterwards – like a negative. The next step was creating a b&w, then back again to gradation curve until I found some more "natural" look *lol*. Last not least I used a filter called oil painting…

  1. Great picture and avatar! I need to go read how to do this as I am a bit behind here. The avatar is so interesting…shows up things that we don't notice in the picture. I really like them both.

  5. I've done something like this before, but was not able to preserve the features of my face as well as you have here. Very well done!

  9. Thanks so much CBD – particularly for "personality". That's the thing I tried to show in it *smile*…Would you be so kind as to tell me what means "Kudos" ?!? 😉

  10. I'm going on to make some more edits to make some more experiences with it. As you might have noticed I used a self portrait that has very fine nuances in colors and shades. Maybe this is one of the reasons I was lucky at once. Another thing is that maybe the camera, lens and the programs I'm using are good. But in every case it's your feedback and your comments that drive me to nurture my skill and become better…Thank you my friend!

  11. I like the way the Avatar captured your eyes. They look very soulful. Amazing the results you got from doing all of those different things. It was worth the effort!

  12. Thanks, I had wanted to try this photo as a banner but just kept putting it off, your new banner inspired me to get down to business. I had to cut a lot off the top of the photo to get it to fit.

  14. Oh thank you. I had a lot of joy by creating it. Lots of trials and errors *lol*

  15. Yes, same here….I have spent several hours in fact! LOL. Glad I like what I came up with as well!

  16. .. and your hard work was worth that. The result is awwwwwwesome!

  17. Kudos: praise: an expression of approval and commendation. And thank you for your comment. I am pleased that mine turned out after all the work. Sounds like you put a similar effort into your work, changing all of the different levels and everything you did. I agree with CBD; yours does have a lot of personality. It is really terrific!

  18. "Kudos" is a sort of slang way of saying "congratulations" or "way to go" or "good job".
And I do see "personality", which is sort of amazing as I am not good at reading people's faces.

  19. Well what I love on your avatar is that it works that good even if it is to be used as small as a buddy icon (I checked it out by having a look at it from a distance of 5 meters from my desktop).

  20. Thanks for enriching my vocabulary CBD!

  21. Thank you!! I had one feedback where someone thought I looked scary but that was before they saw the original picture. I especially like the original now that LOM made the background the blue wall. New tricks for me to learn. I think your Avatar would look great framed. It does show such personality and merriment!

    2010/04/26 at 1:08 pm

  22. She made what I offered you last time… Thanks a lot to LOM 😉

    2010/04/26 at 3:24 pm

  23. I am sorry, Realworld. I must have misunderstood if you offered to put in the blue background for me. That was very kind. I have many thoughtful friends on Vox. 🙂

    2010/04/26 at 5:25 pm

  24. Now you can impress your friends with your new English word. LOL

    2010/04/27 at 4:52 am

  25. No need to be sorry for that Freedom! For me it was most important at first to tell you the way how to make it (what I did on another place on your blog). If you know how to do and you have trained it, it it takes only a few minute's time…At last you have a wonderful friend who made the job! Nothing else matters 🙂

  26. Now, I must learn how to do it myself. I think I will have to download other software!

    2010/04/27 at 10:08 pm

  27. OMG there is a huge choice of programs in the web. And if you find the best software the hard work really begins… Then you know if your choice was right!
